Our ComSoc society organises various intervarsity competitions with our UNSW counterparts (UNSW COMSOC). These competitions give people the opportunity to meet and compete against people across universities. In first semester we had a basketball competition, which featured 8 teams and had an awesome time. ComSoc put a lot of effort into the competition to ensure it was a successful event. In second semester we will hold an indoor football (soccer) competition with UNSW similar to last year. This was heaps of fun in 2008 and we are looking to make it event better in 2009.
On Saturday 4 UNSW and 4 USYD teams turned out to participate in the inaugural intervarsity ComSoc Basketball Competition. Representing USYD were; 'The Exec-utors', the 'USYD Dominators', 'Team Lee' and 'Old School'.
The format was a round robin of 3 games each, then semis and finals. The Exec-utors were hopelessly outclassed, and various issues (like refereeing) prevented Team Lee from progressing. Nevertheless, Old School and he USYD Dominators advanced to the finals, where they faced each other in a tight semi-final, with Old School Victorious. Here Old School played the UNSW COMSOC COWBOYS, who were too good for the tired legs of the amazing Sydney Univesity team. The UNSW COMSOC COWBOYS scored the $150 prize money while Old School retained their initial outlay.
Well done to everyone for a good, but long day.
